Marina di Portorosa is a town without a past. This is an artificially built resort with excavated port for yachts and tourist boats. The resort is not too big yet.

Attractions

There was built a canal leading from a beautiful sandy beach coast to an artificial harbor (this was created by digging a big hole – the future port – and then flooded with sea water flowing via canal).

You can walk around the port through the promenade and admire the small or bigger boats anchored along the port. Marina has an irregular shape, offering romantic views from different directions.

Behind the promenade are private holiday villas in regular lanes, each offering a private terrace for sunbathing.

Accommodation

Visitors can also try an accommodation in a large luxury hotel, which is the only five star hotel in the area. It offers a private beach on one side and a view to the port of Porotorosa on the other.

The hotel was opened in 2007 and boasts 9 floors, 263 rooms. It used to be Hilton hotel (one of two in Sicily) since the beginning but it is Blu hotel now (different company).

The beauty of the resort

The unique advantage of the Marina di Portorosa is its unique position. It lies on the coast in the beautiful countryside. Famous Aeolian Islands are visible from this town.

Since Portorosa is a first-class resort, it is surrounded by palm trees, pine nuts and other vegetation. The whole surrounding environment is so very pleasant.

Portorosa lies close to other famous places and towns, e.g. Tindari, Milazzo (offering regular ferry services to the Aeolian Islands) or Castroreale Terme. Once you are here, you can also visit Cefalu, Taormina or Gardini Naxos – another great sea side resort.
