Marino – good tip for a day trip from Rome
Marino is a small town with about 37,000 residents. It lies in the Alban Hills (Colli Albani in Italian), 21 km southeast of Rome, between Frascati and Castel Gandolfo, and together with them it is particularly suitable for day trips from Rome (it also has a railway connection to Rome).
It lies in the hills, so it is not only romantic, but also offers nice views of the wide plains around.

Marino is famous for its white wine and festival Sagra dell’Uva (“feast of grapes”), which is held every first Sunday in October, when in certain city’s fountain spouts wine instead of water. It is celebrated since 1924.
The settlement dates back to the Etruscan times and became important during Roman times, when the wealthy Romans started to build a holiday villas here. From the Middle Ages belonged to the property of Collona family until 1914. At the end of the World War II Marino was heavily damaged by Allied raids.

Among the most important sights include the Baroque three-nave basilica of San Barnaba with an impressive facade from 1653. From 1713, then dates the church of San Rosario, which is one of the most valuable examples of rococo style. But there are also many other churches in town.
Marino is situated close to the Regional park of Cestelli Romani, at the shores of Lago Albano which is a volcanic crater lake and a great alternative to sea activities. It is surrounded by the Albani hills and is great for nature lovers and those who want to quit from the hustle and bustle of Roman life.
