Avola – tourist resort in Sicily

On the southeast coast of Sicily you can find the classic tourist resort of Avola. Town of Avola is located along with other towns such as Noto, Caltagirone, Militello Val di Catania, Catania, Modica, Palazzolo, Ragusa and Scicli in the valley of Val di Noto.

All these cities were rebuilt after the massive earthquake that hit Sicily in 1693. Therefore, they are built in the late Baroque style of high architectural and artistic level. Cities were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2002.

Avola itself was designed by the shape of a cross erected in a hexagon and its centre includes 5 squares (piazzas). Today its surrounding is already heavily developed agricultural and wine centre. Wine produced here is considered one of the best in Italy. Natural and recreational attractions include sandy beach with gradual entry into the sea that is suitable also for families with children. For visitors who like to enjoy night life and social entertainment, there are prepared a few clubs, bars and restaurants.

If you like active form of holidays and would like to explore the town’s surroundings, you can rent a car and go for a tour to the beautiful city of Noto, located just 7km from Avola. Or you can also visit other historical towns of Siracusa (30km) or Catania (90km).
